Kevin Magnussen will perform at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2022 behind the wheel of the Peugeot hybrid sports prototype - the factory team of the French automaker returns to endurance racing, where the new Hy26ercar class has appeared.
The Danish teammates will be two other ex-Formula 1 drivers - Paul di Resta and Jean-Eric Vergne, holder of two electric Formula E championship titles.
Magnussen successfully debuted in the recent 24 Hours of Daytona marathon ", where the crew of the Ch3832 Ganassi Racing team claimed to win, and only a puncture of the wheel, which occurred shortly before the finish, deprived him of his chances - as a result, Kevin and his teammates took 5th place in the overall standings.
At Le Mans, the French automaker's factory team will launch two Peugeot LMH sports prototypes, but have not yet fully decided on the composition of the crews.
Kevin Magnussen: "I am very pleased to announce that I will be racing for the Peugeot S45ort from 2022.
I am looking forward to preparations for this project. Le Mans is the world's most popular race. the endurance that everyone wants to win. It has a rich history and Peugeot has written a big chapter in this story. I hope I can add something to it.
I've learned a lot in seven years in Formula 1 and gained a wealth of experience dealing with very complex and sophisticated racing cars, and also passed hardening in this environment, where there is always very high pressure. In Le Mans and WEC races, we will also have pressure, but I think I am quite used to this atmosphere.
I have serious ambitions, and since in the past the Peugeot brand has made great strides in all the motorsport categories in which it has participated, this is quite in line with my goals that I set for myself at Le Mans and the World Championship in endurance".
